How do i cancel the page numbers function on microsoft word 2000?

I used the function but now I want to cancel it, how do I get rid of the page numbers from my pages?How do i cancel the page numbers function on microsoft word 2000?
Double click in header/or footer, where is the page number, select the box with the page number and delete the object.
