In general the higher numbers mean they are faster, but it is not always guaranteed. Different companies have different ways of numbering their processors. They take into account the clock speeds (in GHz) and cashe. Also take into account whether they are singe, double, or quad core.
Anyway for what you are doing, anything from Intel's E21XX or AMD's Athlon X2 series should be more than enough for you. The new Phenoms from AMD or Intel's upcoming 8000 and 9000 series would be complete overkill for you and your wallet.
I don't see how that answers her question danielz40. Besides, even though I am an AMD supporter, I have to admit that Intel's processors are much better than anything AMD has out right now. What is the deal with processor numbers?
Go to ibuypower.com, and anything there will run what you want for 6 or 7 years to come.
Honey, any one of those is far more than you will ever need. No joke either but as for good image quality look for one that has a decent graphics card and steer clear from anything that says ';integrated graphics';.
e4500 is equivalent to maybe TWO X2 3800mhz ';aka3.8ghz'; Pentium 4's
Smooth and fast? And Windows? They don't go together.
You cannot rely on processor numbers. Compare an AMD to an Intel running at the same clock speed and the AMD will cream the Intel chip. So AMD uses a different number for performance ratings.
Try Apple. I am not an apple fanatic, but I do know they have the most stable, smoothest and easiest to use systems. Look in this forum: most problems are with drivers, hardware, sound cards, video, what will work, how much ram, etc... and almost all are Windows. But if you must use Windows, use XP. VISTA is such a piece of crap, I honestly believe it is the new ME. If you remember Windows ME, you know what a disaster that was. If you don't, it's because it was a disaster. Microsoft made that just to sell for revenue and had no real benefits but they needed an update because sales were slow. Same thing here with Vista, XP sales have leveled off. You will need more RAM, a faster processor, and a better video card just to be slower than XP!
e4500 is slower as far as the new standards go. The best vlue per dollar right now is likely in the e6750 but since you seem to be buying and not building a computer i would look for either q6600 which is quad core or e6550 or higher. AMD phenoms should be acceptable as well but honestly right now intels are right now
