How would you calculate the average in the following numbers?

60% in a course worth .25 of a credit

57% in a course worth .5 of a credit

50% in a course worth .5 of a creditHow would you calculate the average in the following numbers?
To deterimine the earned credits, calculate

(0.60*0.25 + 0.57*0.50 + 0.50*0.50) = 0.685 credits

There are a maximum of 1.25 credits available (if you got 100% on all three), so

0.685 / 1.25 = 54.8% of available credit.

    Sorry your question makes no since. There are numbers to just about everything on a car. So which part you talking about.
    you have to take your VIN number, and motor number, transmission number, rear end (all you identification numbers) and take it to a ford dealer and have them match it.
    The vin # for the car will match the block and tranny's #s. Look up some stang websites for more info.

    Do you believe that Causcuses accurately represent the rest of the population, since they are smaller numbers?

    In the states that have the caucuses, the numbers of people showing up are smaller numbers than what each primary has in their represented states. It is easier for people to vote on ballots or send in absentee ballots then to make it to a ';town Meeting'; arena.Do you believe that Causcuses accurately represent the rest of the population, since they are smaller numbers?
    Absolutely not. Texas demonstrated that quite well.

    All nominating contests should be primaries, not caucuses. Caucuses are used because they are paid for by the party, but they leave too many people out and are subject to coercion. They are discriminatory to people with families who can't arrange for childcare, elderly who are homebound and vote absentee, military who are overseas and obviously not able to attend the caucus, and people who have mobility problems. Caucus-goers are subject to coercion, since the ';vote'; is public. If your boss is at the caucus and sees you on the opposite side, how does this help your chances of getting that promotion or raise? If your pastor is on the other side, how will you be viewed in your church? Caucuses are riots waiting to happen and are un-American.Do you believe that Causcuses accurately represent the rest of the population, since they are smaller numbers?
    No they don't. They disenfranchise many voters for various reasons such as those with conflicting work hours, the elderly, and many other demographic groups. Everyone should be heard.
    no.
    In my opinion, no I don't think they represent the rest of the population. For the reason you said, but also a lot of people don't really understand what a caucuses is, so they don't even bother, and the ones who do, don't always want to spend all of that time that it takes to hold a caucus. In past caucuses, there usually aren't more then a couple of hundred people who even show up for a caucuses. This year is an exception. But it is not the norm.
    no and they are more popular in urban areas. Most people in Wyoming didnt even know where to go/

    What do the stars next to the serial numbers on a $50 bill mean??

    I have a series of 1928 $50 bill and am trying to find out what this is worth. I also noticed that next to the serial numbers it has a star next to it, does this make it more rare? It's from the federal reserve bank of Chicago, Illinois any help is appreciated thanks.What do the stars next to the serial numbers on a $50 bill mean??
    The star does mean it is a replacement note for one that had that serial number, but was found to be defective in some way. Your note in grade fine trends for $500 in grade fine,$1000 in grade extra fine and $3000 in crisp uncirculated. A trends value is about what it would sell for. The values are usually a little high, most dealers try to sell under it so they look like they are giving you a deal. Of course a dealer will pay less usually 40% to 50% less. Chicago being a center of commerce usually has a lot of notes printed for it's Federal Reserve District, so in this case there is no added value for the district. A currency dearer needs to see it to grade it. I would go to a couple. Stay away from coin dealers that do not have a nice stock of notes and the books to look them up. They don't have the knowledge and will not offer you a fair price or even grade the note right. If you can send a scan of it you can try denlys@aol.com, he is a top notch dealer in Boston. Don't bother if you can't send a scan or photo for he needs to see it to help. Hope this hhas pointed you in the right direction.What do the stars next to the serial numbers on a $50 bill mean??
    the star next to the note indicates that on the original note with the same serial #, an erro was found. The BEP employee then burned the error and created a bill with the same serial number and a star next to it. Yes, this makes the note more valuable. As for the value of the bill, i am not sure because you didnt list if it was series A or what color seal it had. According to the Standard Guide to Small Size US Paper Money, your bill is worth $500 in VF condition, meaning it is lightly used.

    How do you ask for people's phone numbers?

    How do you get someone's phone number without creeping them out? And I don't just mean girls, because sometimes I meet cool guys and just want to chill with them but feel weird asking for their number.

    Should you plan something to do together first, then ask for the number? Or what?How do you ask for people's phone numbers?
    say hey txt me sumtime. then ull figure it out that u need there number or they will figure it out..How do you ask for people's phone numbers?
    You have answered your own question. Hey do you feel like chilling out sometime?

    I know of this really cool joint/................ I thought that you might be interested in going to/seeing/doing...........?

    Here is my phone number just in case your interested. With that if the person is interested they usually automatically give you their phone number.

    I have always found that if I hand over my phone number I always get their number.

    Why don't you just try it out, you will be surprised how many numbers you end up with.

    Please remember if you are given a phone number make sure that you ring it.** People usually wait for the phone call**
    I'm a girl and if a guy asks for my number it doesn't really creep me out at all. As for me getting another girls number, we just go ooh, can I have your number and that's fine but I don't really know about a guy to another guy. In other situations, I have given/gotten phone numbers if there was a reason I might have to contact this person later.
    For girls ill give you a few examples i've used, 1 Hey we should hang out sometime? *they should give you there number if they liked talking to you* 2 Well I have to go, then give them your phone *If there smart enough they should know what to do* 3 Oh yea, well I have to go, Whats your number, I'll text you when I get some time. Those are the 3 I know You just got to experiment and see what works for you.

    For guys just grow some balls and ask. Dude whats your number or Give me yo Number ******. If there cool and yall want to be friends man just ask.
    i always use

    ';Hey do you party?'; if they say yes i say

    ';Well can i get your number so i can hit you up for parties';

    now if i know them i say

    Hey can i get your number

    and if i dont know them i say

    hey you look interesting i know of a party this weekend can i get your number

    and if i dont know them and they dont party i say

    can i get your number?
    If its a girl, say, ';I really enjoyed talking to you, can I call you sometime';.

    If it's a guy, don't ask for their number....offer yours. Say '; hey man you seem like you would be really cool to hang with... let me give you my number so the next time you go out, give me a call';
    First of all dont just go up to someone and ask i had that happen you look like a creep go talk to the person for awhile and then ask can i text you or call you sometime and if they so no just say ok and leave dont keep asking
    uhhh...im fine with ';hey, can i have ur #?'; (imma girl)

    but sometimes if i wanna be creative, i write my name on a 5 dollar bill and slip it into the front of his pants when a hug him bye or am walking out. u might not wanna do that to a girl though...could be said to be sexual abuse....
    just be cool with it, the next time you run into him just say hey can i have your number so we can hang out if he is a good friend he wont think of it in a weird way
    for a guy 'dude your really fun. we should chill somre time. lets swap numbers';

    for a girl 'hey i want to get to know you better. youre such a cool person. heres my number. can i have yours?';

    good luck
    simple, just stay relaxed. go up and say hey how r u? small talk and then hey before i go, do u think i could just grab ur number..? if they say yes, just say ok thanks, ill message u sometime :)

    its easyyyy

    good luck
    At the end of the conversation right before you leave just be like hey b4 i go whats your number so i can call you sometime. Or somethin like that
    i think you should plan something together and then say i'll call you what's your number.
    CAN I HAVE YOUR NUMBER?!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    just ask

  • I am into playing the lotto and powerball. Does anyone know the science of arranging numbers to hit?

    I just recently got started playing the lotto and powerball. Getting ready to play pick three as well. I really want to know how to increase my chances to win. I know there is a science to playing instead of luck. Want the best answer soon as possible. Getting ready to play this week.I am into playing the lotto and powerball. Does anyone know the science of arranging numbers to hit?
    All lotteries are totally random events, there is no mathmatically consistant way to increase your chances of winning such that the amount you win on average will be more than the amount you win by playing ';some other way';

    The numbers drawn in previous draws have no effect on the numbers to be drawn in the future, if one week draw is 12 14 15, the next weeks draw is just as likely to be 12,14,15 again as it is for any other combination of numbers.

    You could increase the frequency over time that you win by buying more lottery tickets, but you will still lose more than you win.

    The house advantage on lotteries are HUGE and they should just be avoided all together, casino games offer much better house advantages, you should play them instead if you want to best your chances at winning money.

    The lottery was initially developed as a way to raise extra government revenue, it is known as the ';fools tax'; for this reason, so just dont play it.I am into playing the lotto and powerball. Does anyone know the science of arranging numbers to hit?
    Sadily there is no science behind the generation of numbers, hence there are balls being popped up by air. The best way to increase your chances, which isn't necessarily the absolute way, is to buy more tickets.

    For instance, the winning numbers for Powerball 4/19/2008 were: 13 19 24 33 39 (8)

    There is a good chance, none of these numbers will come up for next week, most definately the powerball number will not be 8 for next play time.

    Again, some of the hot numbers for the main 5 powerball are:

    13, 18, 27, 33, 46

    So including one of those numbers in your play may help you alittle bit. Not saying using those numbers as your 5 will necessarily help you but using one or two, will aid you.

    Now there is another possibility of helping you out in generating numbers, not necessarily giving you winning based on science.

    1) The day in which you were born, example if you were born on 4/20/2008...Pick the number 20

    2) Do you have a favorite number, pick that number

    3) Call up 5 friends and randomly ask them what their favorite number is, and write them down.

    Good luck

    1 2 3 4 5 (6) is not a good choice

    10 20 30 40 50 (10) another not so lucky choice
    There is nothing you can do to increase your chances of winning except buy extra tickets (if you do buy extras I think that not using the same number twice would increase your chances).

    Alternatively instead of buying more tickets you could join a syndicate www.lotto-millions.co.uk which will increase your chances of getting the jackpot but you would have to share it.
    when you gamble against the state lotto or power ball your odds of winning are against you, but if you learn how to play the stock market you can win a profit everytime. The odds are in your favor with the stocks.
    Do you notice who win the lottery when you see them on the news? Scientists? People who work at NASA? Professors?

    No. Most of the time it is some toothless hick in a single wide.

    There is no science that can predict what numbers are going to hit. In fact if you start trying to get into that quackery, you will find all kinds of people looking to exploit you. People who want to sell you a system.

    The fact is this. One of the most fundamental constants of a lottery is that it is random. Those little plastic balls don't remember which ones came out last week. If number 37 has not come out for a while it does not mean it is unlucky or it is due. These are all gamblers fallacies that will cause you to waste money.

    So play the lottery for fun. Enjoy that dream of getting rich. But never be conned into thinking you can beat the system or even shift the odds in your favor. Each time you buy a ticket you have one more shot at the money. But if you bought one ticket with a different number on it every day it would take you more than 400,000 years to cover every number combination.

    UPDATE: I have to strongly disagree with the point made by slickkittykattwhopurs. To claim that because the Powerball number was 8 last draw, it would be unlikely to be 8 again this draw, is exactly the gamblers logic I was talking about.

    There are 42 red Power Balls drawn with each lottery draw. There is an equal chance that any one of these will be drawn with any given draw. The reason some people think that the same number will not be drawn twice, is because it is more likely not to happen. After all, there are 41 other numbers that could come out. And a 41:42 chance is better than a 1:42 chance. But this does not mean that the same number cannot come out. It does not mean that any one of those 42 balls is more likely or less likely to pop out. It is just a misconception from people that don't understand math.

    What is up with those security code things that are always funny looking letters and numbers?

    Like when you are filling out something online, it will ask you to type in the security thing. and it is so hard to read! what is this for?What is up with those security code things that are always funny looking letters and numbers?
    It's called 'captcha'. The idea is that a human being can interpret the distorted letters but it's very difficult to write a program which can. That prevents people from writing automatic programs to go create thousands and thousands of accounts.What is up with those security code things that are always funny looking letters and numbers?
    THEY ARE SO THAT A COMPUTER HACKER CANNOT GET INTOP THE SYSTEM AS EASY. COMPUERS CANNOT READ IT!
    This feature is called: CAPTCHA

    A CAPTCHA (an acronym for ';completely automated public Turing test to tell computers and humans apart';, trademarked by Carnegie Mellon University) is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to determine whether or not the user is human. The term was coined in 2000 by Luis von Ahn, Manuel Blum, and Nicholas J. Hopper of Carnegie Mellon University, and John Langford of IBM. A common type of CAPTCHA requires that the user type the letters of a distorted image, sometimes with the addition of an obscured sequence of letters or digits that appears on the screen. Because the test is administered by a computer, in contrast to the standard Turing test that is administered by a human, a CAPTCHA is sometimes described as a reverse Turing test. This term, however, is ambiguous because it could also mean a Turing test in which the participants are both attempting to prove they are the computer. So basically the main purpose is to stop hackers, and spammers OR automated computers (AKA: bots) from easily joining multiple times to a website or entering a website to gain access easier.
    it keeps away hackers apparantly
    It keeps ppl from making voluminous amounts of accounts for various reasons. Yea, and I've heard it stops hackers.
    To make sure that it isn't an automated program filling out the online form, that and to keep hackers out.
    It keeps automatic programs from signing in or up to keep out hackers.
    its a tool to eliminate people like you from participating...

    How do I solve an exponential equation with numbers^x on each side?

    I think I am really blanking out.

    The problem is: 3 times 11^x = 7 times 2^x

    Thanks for the help!How do I solve an exponential equation with numbers^x on each side?
    Here's a big hint:

    11^x / 7^x = (11/7) ^ x

    That's how you combine the two x's into a single x.

    How do I solve an exponential equation with numbers^x on each side?
    3(11)^x = 7(2)^x

    7 /3 = (11 /7)^x

    taking logs

    ln(7 / 3) = x ln(11 / 7)

    x = ln (7 / 3) / ln(11 / 7)

    x = 1.875
    3*11^x = 7*2^x

    Taking the ln of each side:

    ln(3) + x*ln(11) = ln(7)+x*ln(2)

    collecting terms and transposing:

    x*[ln(11)-ln(2)] = ln(7) - ln(3)

    x = [ln(7) - ln(3)]/[ln(11) - ln(2)]

    x = .49702

    Are some functions restricted to real or imaginary numbers?

    I mean, if you can verify/validate a formula over the real values... how do we verify that it still works over the imaginary and complex values when our normal means of conceptualizing no longer apply.

    I have found formulas in math that make perfect sense in real values. But new formulas are derived from their application to imaginary values... which, even though I can work the math, I dont conceptualize the formula - I dont see that it should work.Are some functions restricted to real or imaginary numbers?
    Can you do integral approximations with imaginary numbers, or is that a null concept ?

    Been a while since I did any real math. Just do a little for fun, these days.

    This might help. I've not read it through though - http://people.hofstra.edu/Stefan_Waner/r鈥?/a>Are some functions restricted to real or imaginary numbers?
    can you provide an example?

    I think, maybe, some math is taken for granted... as a rule... and isnt really respected. That mathematicians have naively and arrogantly taken it for what its worth just because it follows with a little logic... but with no regard for realistic or practical meaning.

    I heard that sometimes. I think some part of math has a lot to do with practical things. Even complex numbers used for applications in engineering or other domains.

    On the other hand a good part doesn't have immediate utility.

    They are just for the sake of it and the results are a material that may be used in future or...not.

  • How do you determine the value of a numbered print by Picasso?

    You have to determine if it's legit first. Picasso is one of the most forged artists out there.

    One easy check is to look and see if the number is written on in pencil or if it looks copied. If it looks copied (like in the same ink as the print) it more likely fake. If it's pencil, it's worth getting appraised.

    Also look and see if there is gallery info on the back of the frame. You might need to peel up the brown paper if there is any. That will not affect value.

    These Fire Departments are small, with only two or three stations.How do Fire Departments choose their station %26amp; apparatus numbers?
    This answer could be a book but I'll try to hit the high points. There is set way that this is done it will vary from dept to dept.

    Larger depts tend to number apparatus in terms of the station that they are assigned to. Ex engine and ladder one would be assigned to Station 1. Each new station would get the next available number. Some cities name their stations, and them number the apparartus. Some departments number the station then have completely different numbers on the apparatus.

    Sometimes in smaller depts the numbers may be different. For example the the trucks at station 1 might be numbered 11, 12 and 13 etc Trucks from station two would be 21, 22, 23 etc. The first number designating the station and the second the truck.

    The 81, 83, etc numbers that you mentioned could be a rural county station. The station might be known as Whatever Volunteer Fire Dept but might be dispatched as station 8.

    Some depts and this tends to be volunteer county depts will have three numbers. The first number designating the station number, the second the type of apparatus and the third the number. For example if station eight has two pumpers the number might be 821 and 822. 8 would designate the station, 2 might be the number for pumpers and then the number of the truck. Hope this helps.

    What is the smallest number that has 20 divisors. can you show me all the numbers that are the divisors please

    can you show me all the work on how you got it please. thank you .What is the smallest number that has 20 divisors. can you show me all the numbers that are the divisors please
    Interesting problem, and not as easy as it might seem I think. I assume you mean 20 distinct divisors. I think that the best way to approach this would be by considering the prime factorization of this number. Say it is

    p_1^{r_1}* ... *p_n^{r_n}

    where p_1 ... p_n are all prime numbers. The number of divisors of a number of this form is (r_1+1)*(r_2+1)*...*(r_n+1). If we want 20 divisors then, we could have the follow options for the r's

    4,3

    4,1,1

    Corresponding smallest numbers would be:

    2^4*3^3 = 16*27 = 432

    2^4*3*5 = 16*15 = 240

    So 240 would have to be the answer if we wanted exactly 20 divisors, but it might be possible for a smaller number to have more than 20 divisors. I don't want to think about that right now though, so I'll just say 240.What is the smallest number that has 20 divisors. can you show me all the numbers that are the divisors please
    I am assuming that you are asking for the smallest whole number (otherwise negative infinity is pretty small).

    This would be the number that has divisors as the number 1 through 20.

    This number is 20! (20 factorial) = 20 * 19 * 18 * ... * 2 * 1

    20! = 2.433*10^18

    This is a very big number indeed.

    If you want to be a little trickier. The smallest whole number would be 1*-1*2*-2*3*-3*...*10*-10.

    This number is 10!虏 = 10! * 10! = 1.32 *10^13

    Two numbers have a sum of 8 and a product of 11. Find the sum of their reciprocals?

    Its not a trick question, but im just not sure how to do it.Two numbers have a sum of 8 and a product of 11. Find the sum of their reciprocals?
    The question creates two equations, namely:

    x+y=8 and

    xy=11

    Substituting x=8-y in for x in the second equation we have:

    (8-y)(y)=11

    8y-y^2=11

    0=y^2-8y+11

    since this equation doesn't factor down, one must use the quadratic equation. Solutions for Y are : 4 (plus or minus) Sqrt(5).

    We'll assume they both have validity.

    Using Y= the positive root, that makes x=8-4-sqrt(5)

    Using Y= the Negative root, makes x=8-4+sqrt(5)

    and the sum of the reciprocals is either 8/11 either way

    Two numbers have a sum of 8 and a product of 11. Find the sum of their reciprocals?
    let x be one number and y the other

    x+y=8 --%26gt; y = 8 - x

    xy = 11

    so

    x(8 - x) = 11

    8x - x^2 - 11 = 0

    use the quadratic formula, and you get

    x = 4 +- sqrt(5)

    so, the 2 numbers are

    4 + sqrt(5) and 4 - sqrt(5)

    the sum of the reciprocals is

    1/(4 + sqrt(5)) + 1/(4 - sqrt(5))

    so,

    (4 - sqrt(5))/11 + (4+sqrt(5))/11, which is

    8/11
    1/a + 1/b = (a+b)/ab = 8/11

    Yes. If you have a PC install the software that came with your phone and you should be able to sync your contacts with Outlook/Outlook Express. Then, if needed, you can sync back to the phone at a later date.

    What is symbolic representations of odd and even numbers?

    Need to know symbolic representations of odd and even numbers. Its closely related to Number theory.What is symbolic representations of odd and even numbers?
    If you want symbols for the sets of all odd or even numbers, you can use 2N+1 and 2N, where N is the set of natural numbers.What is symbolic representations of odd and even numbers?
    Evens: {x: x = 2n for all n [an element of] N},

    Odds: {x: x = 2n-1 for all n [an element of] N}

    The above is written on the basis that N, the set of natural numbers consists of {1, 2, 3, ...}.

    Some conventions define N as {0, 1, 2, ...}. With this definition, the set of all odd positive integers would be:

    {x: x = 2n+1 for all n [an element of] N}
    If you are looking for a symbol that represents the set of all odd numbers or even numbers similar to R = Reals, Q = rationals and N = natural numbers, there does not appear to any in common usage.
    This task offers the opportunity for students around CSF level 5 or early CSF level 6 to use symbolic representations of even

    and odd numbers, together with various structural principles of algebra, to develop informal proofs, by deduction, of

    generalisations developed in Task 3. These principles include the expansion of brackets and grouping like terms.

    Other conjectures are offered below as opportunities for students to develop informal proofs. While students will probably need

    to specialise these generalisations (and give instances of them in their abstract symbolic form) to interpret them, the intention is

    that they develop their ability to develop and express principled arguments.

    5.1 Proving the generalisations developed

    in Task 3, for example:

    even + even = even

    odd + odd = even

    odd + even = even

    even + odd = even.

    Also, conjectures about the products:

    even 脳 even

    odd 脳 odd

    odd 脳 even, and the differences:

    even 鈥?even

    odd 鈥?odd

    odd 鈥?even

    even 鈥?odd.

    Also:

    Are the following statements always true

    (a and b are positive integers or zero):

    If a + b is even then so is a 鈥?b?

    Is the converse of this statement true?

    If a + b is even and a 鈥?b is even then ab

    is even?

    The product of two consecutive whole

    numbers is even?

    (Also see the extensions for this Task over

    the page).

    Use of abstractions, algebraic

    principles and instantiations (as

    needed) as tools to develop

    principled arguments using the

    processes of Specialising, Correcting,

    Generalising, Explaining, Justifying,

    and Convincing.

    For example:

    Prove the statement that the sum of

    an odd and even number always

    gives an odd number.

    Let the odd number be 2n + 1

    (n is zero or a positive integer).

    Let the even number be 2m (m

    is zero or a positive integer).

    So, the sum of the odd and even

    number may be represented as:

    2n + 1 + 2m.

    This can be restated as:

    2n + 2m + 1, and again as:

    2(n + m) + 1.

    Now, 2 (n + m) must be even

    (we have shown earlier that

    doubling any number yields an

    even number).

    So, 鈥?(n + m) + 1鈥?represents an

    even number plus one. We have

    shown earlier that one more than

    an even number is always odd.

    Thus,

    2(n + m) + 1 is odd, and the

    statement that 鈥榯he sum of an

    odd and even number always

    gives an odd number鈥?is always

    true.

    Are natural numbers the same as whole numbers, integers and rational numbers?

    If not, which of these mean the same thing?

    Natural numbers, whole numbers, integers and rational numbers?Are natural numbers the same as whole numbers, integers and rational numbers?
    Natural numbers are not the same as whole numbers, because whole numbers include the number zero, while the natural numbers are ';counting'; numbers.

    As a summary, here are the various sets of numbers:

    Natural Numbers: { 1, 2, 3, 4, .... }

    Whole Numbers: { 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, .... }

    Integers: { ... -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, ... }

    Rational Numbers: { All numbers of the form m/n, where m and n are both integers and n is non-zero}

    All natural numbers are whole numbers (since the whole numbers are just the natural numbers, and includes zero).

    All whole numbers are integers (since integers just open up the negative numbers)

    All integers are rational numbers (since all integers can be expressed as themselves over 1, i.e. -5 is the same as -5/1, and 49 = 49/1).

    Are natural numbers the same as whole numbers, integers and rational numbers?
    Most books I've seen define the numbers like this...

    natural numbers are 1, 2, 3, ...

    whole numbers are 0, 1, 2, 3, ...

    integers are -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...

    rational numbers are integers AND decimals like 3.2. They can't be decimals that go on forever without repeating like 3.4594382304... those are irrational numbers.

    Let the first one : X

    Let the second one : Y

    X + Y = 34

    X - Y = 10Two numbers, with a difference of 10, have a sum of 34. What is the algebraic equation for this?
    You have two equations with two unknowns:

    a - b = 10, solve for a = (10 + b)

    a + b = 34, substitute (10 + b) + b = 34 =%26gt; 2b + 10 = 34 =%26gt; 2b = 34-10 = 24, so b = 12

    since a = b + 10, a = 12+10 = 22
    x + y = 34

    x - y = 10
    a-b=10

    a+b=34

    Add together: 2a=44, so a=22 substitute to get b=10
    Let the mumber be x and x+10

    So x+ (x+10)=34

    2x+10=34

    2x=24

    x=12

    How does binary code distinguish between letters and numbers?

    I understand binary numbers, but how does the computer know to read the code as letters rather than one long number?How does binary code distinguish between letters and numbers?
    ASCII code is used for this, this is done by associating each letter or code (start/end of text) a binary code here is a list of ASCII codes.

    http://www.asciitable.com/How does binary code distinguish between letters and numbers?
    It doesn't. A computer is only an adding machine. The processor can move data, sort data and add. If you ask a computer to subtract 1 from 1000 it actually adds -1 to get the answer. Now, in a computer there are only 0's and 1's. 0 is also negative and 1 is positive. The first difference is the AASCI character table. each character has a unique binary number associated to it. Thus, a 240 long binary chain followed by a stop bit will be read as the character it corresponds to. Now we have characters expressed by binary numbers we can simplify. The first simplification is machine code which is used in your BIOS to control the computers parts (video chip, hard drive etc.). Machine code is in hexadecimal where the sequence is 16 numbers. So the first hex code is 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 0A, 0B, 0C, 0D, 0E and 0F. The next sequence is 10, 11 and so on so the last is F0, F1 etc to the last one which is FF. As FF is the very last it is always used as ';end of file';. Now you may be able to see how programing languages have developed. Finally the hexadecimal sequence is so important in computing because it is 16 16's (00 to 0F is 16 characters, 10 to 1F is another 16, 20 to 2F and so on) so we have 16 x 16 = 256, notice anything here? 2 x 256 is 512, 2 x 512 = 1024? How many bytes in a Megabyte? look at your memory, it is not 1000 bytes, it is 1024. Now you can see that binary to hex is a progression that led to the development of the modern computer. The modern machine is still in the hex format. I hope you have been helped by this.
    Context.

    As far as the computer is concerned, there is no difference. It's up to the programmer to determine how the program is going to interpret the data.

    Most programmers work in high-level languages where this is managed by declaring the ';type'; of the data in question - character/string or integer/floating-point, so we don't really think about it all that much, but at the nitty gritty lowest level of the machine, everything is just bits and it gets treated the same way regardless of what it is.
    The computer itself has software (it's operating system) that it uses to decode all the 1's and 0's into instructions.

    Take it to a jeweler to be appraised. If it has numbers on they just tell you how much gold is actually in the piece. The higher the number the more it's worth. Also the higher the number the softer the pirece will be.Is there a website that explains what the numbers on gold jewellery means?
    the numbers are the type of gold it is 14K or 18k it is good gold and 10k it is a soft gold most like 10k I do are they with stones or without your color stones were better in the old days so many now are lab just think if you save some and you have children they will be pased on and be worth more. . good luck I wish I could see it is it rings or pins pins are hard to come by they go fairly high. e mail me at my friends keith_mcneal@sbcglobal.net.
    They use to have all the gold markings and meanings in the Argos catalogue.

    Or you could try an antique dealer.

    What's the global standard for international phone numbers?

    Is there something like an ISO standard that governs the correct format to be used for an international phone number? I often see the plus symbol used to indicate the international dialing prefix (ex. +81 = Japan).

    Is it standard to strip out all the spaces, parentheses, hyphens and other punctuation and just publish the number like this:

    +81.01234567890

    I am asking because I would like to standardize a company's international phone numbers on business cards, annual reports, promotional materials, websites, etc.What's the global standard for international phone numbers?
    there are formatting standards (no dashes, use spaces to separate numbers)

    a good summary is here:

    http://www.geocities.com/dtmcbride/refer鈥?/a>What's the global standard for international phone numbers?
    i'm not sure on that one. i call india a lot, cause that is where my fiance' is. and there is a plus sign because i call from my cell and i have to push the 0 button down until a plus sign appears then dial the 91 for the country code then 44 for the city code then the rest of the number.

    i am not sure if i was helpful or not.
    There is no international standard format for this. however it is practical to break the number up to show the international dialling code, the local dialling code and then the number itself. It is also normal to show the number broken into two, three or four sets of numbers as this makes it easier to remember, for example a number in Russia, might be.

    + 7 4242 28 22 09

    The + indicating the international dialling prefix, the 7 being the code for Russia, the 4242 being the area code in the Russian City, and the telephone number (282209) broken into groups of two numbers, could also be shown as

    +7 4242 282 209

    Hope that helps
