How come police officers write their names and badge numbers on speeding tickets?

How come police officers write their names and badge numbers on speeding tickets? And why is their name eligible and their badge number is legible? Please let me know thank you.How come police officers write their names and badge numbers on speeding tickets?
To identify them as the officer who wrote the ticket. It's a legal document accusing someone of wrongdoing.

My signature is illegible for the same reason that many doctor's are: I sign a lot of stuff every day and I get in a hurry. The badge number is easier to do, and identifies me to the court. How come police officers write their names and badge numbers on speeding tickets?
It is so the judge can call in the officer to court to testify against you. Also this way they can be held accountable if they give out false tickets.

The legibility is better on the number than the name because most people are better with numbers than letters. Also it is most likely a signature, is your script legible. Is the script legible when you endorse your checks.
when you show up to court the officer who issued the ticket also has to show up to even if you dont see them. He sues you on behalf of the police dept. and the name doesn't have to be legible they make it that way so you won't find them but the number has to be clear for the court to process the ticket.
They have to know who wrote the ticket, Signatures are always a mess, badge numbers, so they know who wrote the ticket
