How can i stop premium rate or o800 numbers calling my landline?uk?

i am sick of sales calls etc at inconvenient times,well anytime really?How can i stop premium rate or o800 numbers calling my landline?uk?
Hi,

If you are with BT you can sign up to ';Choose to Refuse';

Choose to Refuse prevents unwanted or nuisance calls getting through to you.

How does it work?

If you frequently receive unwanted or nuisance calls from a particular number, you can block that number from getting through to you. This ensures your peace of mind and, if later on you change your mind, you can lift the block and allow the caller to contact you again.

You can also sign up to ';Anonymous Call Reject'; (BT).

Anonymous Call Reject allows you to bar calls being made from withheld numbers.

How does it work?

If a caller withholds their number, they will not be able to get through to you. They will only be able to get through if they reveal their number. Anonymous Call Reject will not bar incoming calls where it delivers the message 'unavailable'.

You can also register with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS).

This is free and once registered, within 2-4 weeks, you should notice a dramatic drop in ';sales'; calls.

They also allow you to register for the ';Mail Preference service';, ';Fax Preference Service'; %26amp; particularly useful for someone who's child has died ';Baby Mail Preference Service';

I have registered with TPS %26amp; MPS, I don't get anywhere near as many sales calls as I used to.

Unfortunatly, some companies don't deal with the TPS and some other companies get your number by generating random numbers until they get a ';live'; number.

You will get a lot less calls though.

Hope that helps
