How do i switch my mobile telephone numbers (AT&T and Verizon)?

I have two cell phones on two different accounts one with verizon and an iphone with AT%26amp;T. I wanted to switch my phone number that is currently on the verizon account to my iPhone. The number that is currently on the iPhone doesn't really matter, but it would be more convenient to also switch that number onto my Verizon cell phone.





In other words, i'm simply trying to swap the two telephone numbers. How can i do this?

This is really hard to do and if you do go through with it you might be without cellphone service for a few weeks to a matter of months.





This is a magical word called ';number porting';. At%26amp;t and verizon both have this and they can bring your number from your old carrier to the at%26amp;t network. Same with verizon only vise versa. It sound like you don't want to inconvienance people by having to call them and give them your new number. But to be truthfull, its just going to be harder for you to do this than it would be for them to just change your phone number in their address book.





The easiest thing to do is to just do this. Call at%26amp;t and tell them that you already have service but you are looking to port a number from verizon onto at%26amp;t. They will then port the number and they MIGHT be able to make that your iPhone number. When you ';port'; your phone number, it will automatically shut off verizon wireless.





Then your next step is to call verizon and tell them that you would like to sign up for new service but you already have a phone. They will allow you to use your phone but will have to charge you startup fees like activation and they will give you a new phone number





SO to recap:





call at%26amp;t from a friend's phone or a landline. You can't be talking on the iPhone or the verizon phone while they change your number and shut off verizon service

tell them that you are already an iPhone customer who wants to port over a verizon number and to make that your phone number for the iPhone. They will shut off verizon service and you will receive a final bill in the mail from verizon for the last month's service. You might have to wait a month for you to be able to reactivate verizon service under your name and cc numbers





Then after a month or so, call verizon and order new service and tell them that you have a phone already. You will pay for activation fees and other charges for the fist month's bill. You will have to choose a minute package all over again.











that's it... but i bet you now realize how big of an inconvenience it is to do that
