There is set of numbers on the top of the keyboard and the one on the right. Why are there two? Most people seem to use the one on the right. Why not just have one and leave the top area for all the symbols that are already on there for which you have to press shift to use the symbols. Why are there two sets of numbers on keyboards?
More ways to do the same task = Better usability.
When I'm typing text, I use the top numbers because they're closer to where the QWERTY letters are. However, if I'm just typing in numbers, I will use the number pad on the right since that's easier to use with one hand. It just depends on the situation. Why are there two sets of numbers on keyboards?
The one on top is meant for typing in like an essay or somthing quickly. The on on the right is for inputting numbers.
Possibly because it is easier to reach? There is no difference between the two keyboards functions.
convenience, the one on the right is faster, but many people who do not use computers extensivly dont know how to use it, and are only confused by it. using the top pad is not confusing since the numbers are listed in the most obvious order
the numbers above all the letter keys are so formatted to be used for typing numbers into sentences, etc. The other numbers are arranged in adding-machine formation and are used for calculations or for adding numbers into spreadsheets.
It depends on how you are using the numbers...if you are typing an address such as 123 Anywhere Street, it is easiest to use the fingers on your home row to type the numbers. If you are doing any sort of math, it makes sense to have them set up like a calculator...
Those of us who touch-type or can use an adding machine without looking at the numbers, find it easier to use the best keys suited to the tasks we are peforming.
Many keyboards--especially laptops, do NOT have the extra keys in calculator format. Only extended keyboards have that format.
I think it's because you need the right pad for alt codes
Good question!! I thought the one on the right was so it is more like a calculator plus you can use them ones to select icons in ms word etc, but i dont know why there are numbers across the top aswell.
I think you pretty much got your Answers, above!
I use the 'keyboard' numbers when writing in e-Mail;s etc, I use the keys on the 'right' with the Calculator, in the Computer, when checking my 'On-line' Banking and Balancing my checkbook!
there is some people that are not in business fields and they do not know how to use the numbers on the right
